Human-in-the-Loop

Definition

An AI workflow design in which a person validates and refines machine-generated output before it takes effect — the AI drafts, the human decides. In presales this is the difference between an assistant and a liability: AI-generated RFP answers, battlecards and briefs are reviewed by an SE before anything reaches a prospect, and the corrections feed back into the knowledge base.

Review has to be real, not nominal

A checkbox that everyone clicks is not oversight. Genuine human-in-the-loop design makes review the default path, surfaces what the model was unsure about, and makes correcting something faster than rewriting it. Where review is inconvenient it gets skipped under deadline, which is precisely when the stakes are highest.

Corrections are the compounding part

When an SE fixes a generated answer, that correction is the most valuable output of the interaction — a verified answer produced by someone who knows the product. Systems that discard it ask the next SE to make the same fix. Systems that feed it back into the knowledge base get better with use.

It is also increasingly a compliance requirement

Human oversight is an explicit expectation in EU AI Act transparency obligations, and buyers' procurement teams have started asking how it is implemented rather than whether it exists.
